Community Spotlight: The Black & White Affair — Love, Legacy & Healing in Memphis
Every year, Always Giving Back Memphis (AGB) brings the city together for something special — The Black & White Affair. It’s not just another gala. It’s a night filled with purpose, remembrance, and unity — honoring the Greater Memphis Parents of Murdered Children Chapter (GMPOMC) and the families who carry their memories forward with strength.
This year’s event was no different — it was powerful.
A Night of Healing and Hope
The evening honored Rafiah Muhammad McCormick, the keynote speaker who shared a touching story about her son Rodney and their organization Rodney's Village about finding purpose through pain. You could feel the room pause, breathe, and reflect with her. Her words reminded everyone that community isn’t built in comfort — it’s built through compassion.
Music That Moved the Room
The night’s energy carried through with live performances from Michael Townsend, Jay Daskreet, Brande Patrice, Fayro, Syng Saikou, Saturday Sunset, and others — artists who turned the stage into a sanctuary of sound. Each performance brought the crowd to their feet, blending soul, hip-hop, and R&B into something that felt authentically Memphis.
Welcome to the Cookout Podcast: Bringing the Story to the Table
Welcome to the Cookout Podcast had the honor of covering the event — capturing the love, laughter, and legacy that filled the room. For us, it’s more than media coverage — it’s about creating space for stories that matter.
As C.L. Tim Williams, founder of Always Giving Back Memphis, shared:
“Welcome to the Cookout Podcast has been a game changer for our organization. Your continual support and partnership helped put the Greater Memphis Parents of Murdered Children Chapter in the limelight. Your live podcast at the Black & White Affair gave us great exposure for what we’re doing for the community. We love and appreciate you both for traveling from Union City to Memphis to support us.”
That’s what the Cookout is all about — showing up, breaking bread, and lifting each other higher.
